If you’re reading this, here is your sign to book your family session for summer – not fall.

Fall gets a rep for being the time for family session portraits but I’m gonna give you three reasons why I truly believe that you should book your family session for the summer.

  1. As we trudge further on in the year, sunset seems to come earlier and earlier. The best time to do your session – about two hours before sunset – runs into the school day and work hours, which can be really tricky for families with school-aged children. This is much less of an issues for summer sessions, as we will generally start to shoot around 5 or 6pm based on the time of the year.
  2. Planning your session for summer means that the cold is not a factor for wardrobe planning. Not only will you avoid the red cheeks and dripping noses, you’ll also won’t need to worry about layering coats and sweaters to keep everyone warm and happy.
  3. If you are planning to print and hang your portraits throughout your home (which I hope you are!), summer portraits – with the green on the trees and the beautiful soft light – can seem less seasonal than a winter-themed portrait session.
